How do I care for tile Floors?

Tile products, for the most part, require minimal maintenance. By properly caring for your tile floor, you can extend its life and preserve its appearance. Improper maintenance can result in a build-up on the surface, making the tile slippery. To care for tile floors, regularly sweep or vacuum to remove loose debris, then mop with a mild detergent and water or a specialized tile cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scrubbers, and dry the floor thoroughly to prevent water spots.

What To Do:

  • Do sweep or vacuum surface. Use a vacuum cleaner or a soft bristle broom on a weekly basis to remove debris, loose dirt, and grime that may scratch or dull your floor.
  • Do mix water with tile and grout cleaner per the manufacturer’s instructions and apply to tile surface. Opt for a gentle, commercial-grade cleaner if you prefer not to create your own solution with natural agents like vinegar or lemon juice. These mild detergents are essential, especially for unpolished porcelain tiles.
  • Next mop solution and rinse thoroughly with clean water. A bucket and chamois mop are ideal for this task, as they allow you to create your cleaning solution and scrub it into the tiles without risking discoloration in the grout, unlike sponge mops.
  • Use a grout cleaner and scrubbing brush to address the porous nature of grout, which easily absorbs dirt and grease. Apply the commercial-grade grout cleaner directly and scrub with a toothbrush or small, nylon brush. Avoid metal brushes to prevent scratching your tiles.
  • Finally, wipe your floor dry. Utilize a dry cloth, towel, or microfiber cloth to ensure your tile floors are thoroughly dried after cleaning, maintaining their pristine appearance.

This comprehensive approach will help keep your tile floors looking their best, ensuring longevity and cleanliness with minimal effort.
